Mothers Day Keyring Heart/Keepsake

What Mum doesn’t want her little one’s thumbprints saved forever?

Celebrate Mothers Day by showing her how much she is loved with this sentimental keepsake.

Craft items required

• Air drying clay
• Ready mixed paint, (we’ve used two colours)
• Paintbrush
• Decorative ribbon
• Rolling pin & dough cutter if you’d prefer

Step 1

Take your air drying clay and slice off enough to make your heart shape. The heart can be as big or as small as you’d like.

You could also make several hearts, maybe one for each child and hang them together on one ribbon.

Step 2

Knead and handle the clay until it is pliable and then create your heart shape. You may find it easier to use a rolling pin to roll it flat.
You could also use a dough cutter if you’d prefer a more perfect shape.

Using a thumb print, in the middle of the clay heart, make another heart shape with one thumb print to the left and one to the right.

Step 3

Next, using the end of a paintbrush or similar, (perhaps a wooden skewer), create the hole for hanging your Mothers Day Heart keyring/keepsake.

Step 4

Leave the heart to ‘air dry’. Depending on the size and thickness of your heart, it could take up to 24 hours. Once fully dry, you can decorate your heart with paints and/or varnish. You can even sand it lightly if you want to smooth the edges before decorating.

How about adding the child’s name and date to the back for a special memory?

Finally, cut your decorative ribbon and push through the hanging hole at the top of the heart. Fasten both ends of the ribbon with a knot to secure.

Voila – a beautiful, sentimental, thumbprint hanging keyring/keepsake. Perfect for your special someone.
